Scheme of Work

“The syllabus provides a foundation in mathematics for students who intend to enrol in university courses such as business, economics and social sciences. It covers Functions and Graphs, Calculus, and Statistics. The main focus of the syllabus will be the understanding and application of basic concepts and techniques of statistics. This will equip students with the skills to analyse and interpret data, and to make informed decisions.”

“H1 Mathematics provides students with a foundation in mathematics and statistics that will support their business or social sciences studies at the university. It is particularly appropriate for students without O Level Additional Mathematics because it offers an opportunity for them to learn important mathematical concepts and skills in algebra and calculus that were taught in Additional Mathematics. Students will also learn basic statistical methods that are necessary for studies in business and social sciences.”

“The syllabus prepares students adequately for university courses including mathematics, physics and engineering, where more mathematics content is required. The syllabus aims to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills in students. Topics covered include Functions and Graphs, Sequences and Series, Vectors, Complex Numbers, Calculus, Permutations, Combinations and Probability, Binomial, Poisson and Normal Distributions, Sampling and Hypothesis Testing, and Correlation and Regression. Students will learn to analyse, formulate and solve different types of problems. They will also learn to work with data and perform statistical analyses.”

“H2 Mathematics is designed to prepare students for a range of university courses, including mathematics, sciences, engineering and related courses, where a good foundation in mathematics is required. It develops mathematical thinking and reasoning skills that are essential for further learning of mathematics. Through applications of mathematics, students also develop an appreciation of mathematics and its connections to other disciplines and to the real world.”

The syllabus prepares students adequately for A-Level H2 Mathematics, where a strong foundation in algebraic manipulation skills and mathematical reasoning skills are required. The content is organised into three strands, namely, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, and Calculus. Besides conceptual understanding and skill proficiency explicated in the content strand, the development of process skills, namely, reasoning, communication and connections, thinking skills and heuristics, and applications and modelling are also emphasised. The O-Level Additional Mathematics syllabus assumes knowledge of O-Level Mathematics.”
